I can't say anything about property taxes. I honetly don't know if they have them here in India.
But sales tax in the US (in New Jersey - which is what I'm used to) is nothing compared to the taxes here in India. They have the VAT ... Value Added Tax ...
For a meal in the hotel here the VAT is 12.5% ... and that's just on food. Beverages are taxed at 20%.
So, a 150 rupee drink ... which is $3.33 (as of today - 11/6) is taxed at 20% ... adding an additional 30 rupees. The total for a Foster's Lager, then, is $4.00 ... Sheesh!
